What Claude Can Do in ShopGuide
Once connected, Claude can do the jobs below. Items marked Full access need a full-access connection; everything else works with Read only. Full access is available only for stores ShopGuide has approved, and every other store connects read only.
Check your setup
Read only. Claude reads the ShopGuide setup guide and gives you one overview: where the chat appears in your theme, product sync, how big your knowledge base is, your launch messages, pending changes, open knowledge gaps and what to do next.
To place the chat in a theme, Claude plans the placement and later checks the result. The theme files themselves are written by Claude's Shopify connector into an unpublished copy, and you publish it yourself.
Explain your numbers
Read only. Claude can report your chat analytics, shopping funnel, chat revenue impact, path insights (including your ShopGuide session count next to Shopify Analytics), shopper insights (questions, segments, product interest, related products, repeat purchases) and journey insights (common paths, drop-off pages, page flow, landing pages). These are the same numbers you see in ShopGuide and in Shopify Sidekick.
Close knowledge gaps
- Read only: list your open knowledge gaps, most frequent first.
- Full access: mark a gap resolved or dismissed after you fixed it.
Settings
- Read only: read your settings by section. Secrets and API keys are never shown.
- Read only: see the settings history.
- Full access: prepare setting changes as a draft, restore an earlier version, and look up one customer's browsing profile, orders and chat summary.
Claude can prepare changes to the chat heading, button labels, colors and corner radii, the style template, bubble position, size and icon, product card layout, the border around bot messages, the language of fixed texts, the proactive opening message and teaser messages, order tracking, order editing, lead capture, the discount generator, free shipping, and hiding the chat on desktop or phones. Launch messages
Full access. Claude writes a launch message and up to 6 buttons for a page type (global, product or collection) and language, as a draft. It can also remove a language entry. See Custom launch messages.
Texts written by Claude are plain text. Claude refuses to put links, URLs or HTML into them.
Knowledge base
- Read only: list your knowledge base entries and documents.
- Full access: add, update and delete question-and-answer entries, and add or delete documents.
Question-and-answer entries and new documents Claude adds, updates or deletes go live immediately, with no draft to review. Ask Claude to show you the text first. Behaviour rules and deleting a document are the exceptions: those wait for you to publish them.
Product sync
- Read only: see the product catalog sync status.
- Full access: start a sync, either a delta sync or a full rebuild.
Test your assistant
Full access. Claude asks your real assistant a question the way a shopper would. Test chats are internal and are left out of your analytics. Support hand-offs and order edits are simulated, so nothing is sent and no order changes. Claude can delete its own test chats afterwards.

Read only. Claude can show the latest actions made through the connector.
What Claude never does
- Change secrets or API keys.
- Change account controls: Sidekick access level, debug mode, transcript deletion and the storefront kill switch.
- Add custom CSS.
- Write theme files itself.
